tom yam kung? gung!

march 27th, sheffer and i went to chiang mai, thailand.
yes, only the two of us.

chiang mai was great!
6 days i was away from the kl busy streets, away from crazy work, and away from facebook. we almost went berserk without internet and facebook because we wanted to check out cool cafes and restaurants to hang out. in the end, we paid 30baht for the 1 hour internet access. it was damn cheap and worth it!

sawadee

yes, backpackers style!

cute little cafe next to our hotel

this is where we stayed. a guest house with only 28 rooms. basically, it was a big bungalow where this thai family turn it into a hotel. it works like a hotel, housekeeping, free breakfast, security guard every night, air-conditioned.
Portico 21, Chiang Mai.
room rates = THB 1,700 to THB 2,500 (about RM 170 - RM 250)

night bazaar

shopping was nothing great. they have cheap kains. it was like nagoya, kamdar, euro moda, gulatis all in 1 store and of course, it was hell cheap. cotton for only RM 7 per meter. satin for only RM 4 per meter. my mum was proud that i came back with no extra bag and a lot of kain for baju kurung.

we had dinner at the night bazaar area. tom yam kung, deep fried fish in soy sauce, butter prawns, papaya salad. yummy!

thailand = good spa

hang out at cafe de siam along khampangdin road

the next morning, we rented bicycles because we've been walking and it was tiring. tuk tuk pulak mahal. we decided to rent the bicycles and jalan jalan around town.

first stop, coffee bug cafe. omg! this was the cutest cafe there. if you order any hot drinks, they serve you in their custom made mug, it has a bug on it. cute nak mampos! we didn't order hot drinks. the temperature there was around 34 degrees i think. damn hot! it was their summer season. oct-feb winter and sejuk.

after shopping, we went to art & cafe at khampangdin road.
we got sesat on the way there. we stopped and asked pakcik tuk tuk.
it was a gallery cum cafe.
happy sun, the owner opened the cafe about a year ago.
ala alaa garden cafe.

our last night in chiang mai, we had tapas dinner at the house.
it's a bungalow with 3 sections. on the left, it's the thai restaurant. mid section, shopping gallery (the house gallery) where they sell accessories, bags and other handicraft items. *not cheap though
the right section is the tapas area.

phew! 6 days of chiang mai.
pleasant, quiet and polite city.
they don't honk, they don't smoke that much.
it was impossible to smoke over there.
some of their outdoor cafes, no smoking allowed.
hotel lobby, no smoking. aiyoooo almost everywhere lah!
we survived. food was cheap. THB 100- THB 300.
tuk tuk, THB 40.
shopping, not that great. unless you're a fan of kain kain.
they don't have those tops or pants like the one in gossip or cats whiskers.
i supposed that would be in bangkok.
anyway, i had a lot of fun!

i miss my bicycle.

reality check, im now back to my normal life.
wake up in the morning, hit the road and face the bad traffic.
work like crazy. office politics. weird officemates, cool officemates, insecure officemate, great lunch buddies, meetings here and there. blurgh!
